RGA Goes Solar: Clean Power for Our Thailand Manufacture

A full rooftop solar array is now complete across RGA Diamond Co., our manufacturing facility in Lamphun, Thailand. 480 panels — 312 kWp of capacity — cover every workshop roof on the site. The system went live on 4 August 2026, and since that day the clean power generated on those roofs has been used beneath them.

Diamond cutting is patient, power-hungry work. Sawing, bruting and polishing run continuously, and a precision atelier has to hold a stable climate around the benches hour after hour. Producing that energy on site — on the roofs directly above the people doing the work — is the most direct way we can reduce the footprint of every stone we cut.

The array was sized generously on purpose. Against a site demand of 110 kWp, 312 kWp of capacity gives us the headroom to keep drawing from the roof through cloud cover, through the length of the working day, and through the weeks when Thailand’s skies are least generous.

In its opening weeks, solar carried 64% of the facility’s electricity through August and just over 74% through the first days of September — figures recorded entirely within the rainy season, the least productive stretch of the solar year. The first 38 days avoided 9.75 tonnes of CO₂. As the dry months arrive we expect that share to rise, settling between 80 and 85 per cent across a full year.

Since 2012, RGA has been built around advanced cutting technology and lean manufacturing. This installation extends the same thinking to the energy behind the benches, and sits alongside our Responsible Jewellery Council certification and Kimberley Process compliance as part of one commitment: the standards we hold for our diamonds should apply equally to how we make them.
